Starfield is designed to keep your device and sensor data on your device.
Summary
Starfield has no user accounts, advertising, analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking. The developer does not collect, sell, or share personal data through the app.
Location
If you grant permission, Starfield uses an approximate location on your device to calculate the visible sky and align it with true north. Your location is not sent to the developer or stored on a server.
Camera and motion
When you use augmented-reality features, camera frames and motion sensor readings are processed live on your device to align the sky with your surroundings. Starfield does not save or upload camera frames or motion readings.
On-device storage
Starfield stores settings such as your language preference, along with temporary downloaded image caches, on your device. You can remove this data by deleting the app.
Network requests
When you request an observation image, Starfield may fetch it directly from a public astronomy service using the selected celestial object's coordinates—not your device location. As with any internet request, that service may receive standard network information such as your IP address and user agent under its own privacy practices. This network information is not received by the Starfield developer.
Permissions and your choices
Camera, motion, and location access are optional and controlled in iOS Settings. Starfield remains usable as a manual sky map when these permissions are unavailable, although direction-aware or augmented-reality features may be limited.
Children's privacy
Starfield does not knowingly collect personal information from children or adults.
